Time to Refocus

I have cut back significantly on the time I spend on social media. I did this mainly as a mini retreat to prepare for my Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary outlined by St. Louis de Montfort. If you are unfamiliar with the Total Consecration, and you wonder what in the world I'm talking about, you can find information here.

I've been wanting to make the Total Consecration for years, but I was always hesitant to do it. I guess I was afraid I couldn't live up to my promise, but this year I finally felt ready to take the leap. I made my Consecration yesterday on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

My mini retreat was helpful in many ways. I had more time for prayer and contemplation and more time to read. I also felt less stress. Social media can be stress-inducing. How much? We may not even know.

Moving forward, I plan to keep limiting my social media time. I will still maintain my Facebook page and my Instagram account for now, but I'll be posting less frequently and scrolling through feeds less often. There are other things I need to focus on.

I have written and self-published 4 books in the last 5 years. That’s a lot, considering I never planned to write beyond A Future Spring. I now think it’s time to take a break, slow down, and refocus.

Writing, editing, publishing, and marketing a book takes a lot of time and energy. In the process, other things tend to be neglected. One of those things that I have brushed aside is knitting. So, I’ve decided to devote some time to developing my knitting skills. Knitting is a great way to reduce stress, and I’ve joined a knitting club that will strengthen my skills and teach me some new stitches. As we know, there are only 24 hours in one day, so something else needs to be put aside.

Does this mean I won’t be writing?

Of course not.

I love writing, and the Danvers family has a lot to share with the world. I will just be taking a slower pace and placing less pressure on myself to publish the next book.

What will be put aside is social media. There’s just not enough time for everything. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on the Danvers series on Facebook and Instagram, but this blog will remain active, so I’ll definitely keep you posted on everything right here.
