I had lunch with a friend the other day. We are so different, yet very much the same. We come from different backgrounds, different faiths, and different experiences, yet we are the same in our hopes and dreams for each other. It is an unlikely friendship, yet it makes perfect sense. These are the times when I begin to ponder how things like these come about, and I know He brings people together for reasons we may not understand at first. What He chooses for us is unpredictable, and all we have to do is step aside and let Him do His work.
Then I start thinking about what heaven will be like. That is our main goal, after all, to spend eternity with God. We will be reunited with family and friends that have gone before us, and I imagine it will be as if no time has passed at all. I also know that all our differences will fade away and Truth will be revealed. Every now and then we get glimpses of heaven, if we are in the right spiritual state. And something simple like lunch with a friend can be a spiritual experience.
Today we start the Lenten journey again. I hope it is a time of spiritual renewal for everyone. Let these days lead us to a greater understanding of the world around us and bring us closer to Him. And I pray we are each given little glimpses of heaven.
